Rearcross U-10's and Clodiagh Rangers played out a thrilling encounter in this floodlit league game played in Rearcross on Monday evening where the home side edged victory on a slender one nil score line. The opening exchanges were evenly contested, however Rearcross edged ahead on five minutes when Aidan Bryan did brilliantly on the left before finishing a low effort to the corner of the net. The home side went on to produce the best defensive display of the season continually thwarting the efforts of a lively visiting side in the process. Sean Malone put in a crucial tackle in the eight minute and then on the counter attack Patrick Dawson came close with a good strike; however Sean Ryan in the Clodiagh goals was equal to the effort. Clodiagh Rangers also had their moments and Harvey Field fired a well struck shot on target four minutes before the break, however Cathal Kennedy got behind the ball to make a clean block. Aidan Byran was a threat throughout and linked up with Colm Lenihan near the end of the half, however the visiting defence shut out the danger. The Drombane side piled on the pressure in the second half and Rearcross were let of the hook when Pat Ryan's pile driver ricocheted over the bar. Paul Nolan turned in an exceptional display for Rearcross on the night to continually torment the visitors. Pat Ryan came close again for the visitors, midway through the half when his low effort was deflected just outside the upright. A good move involving Aidan Bryan, Cillian Kennedy and Patrick Dawson saw the latter fire on target, however the Clodiagh custodian made the block. Oisín Treacy powered a good strike on target for the visitors in the dying minutes, however a last ditch block down saw the concession of a corner kick which was duly cleared to cap off a fine win for the home side.
